Now I have Animal Msking so I should probably throw my friend code out. Add me! Thats how it works right? Also, while I’m at it, I know i haven’t really been doing much lately. I have had a busy month and then some what with moving, work and. I doubt I’ll be drawing much stuff for myself now either but I always make time for games! Feb 4, Jul 17, I accept paypal and points. I’m saving up for some new furniture and want to get some more money into my savings account, these will help a lot! I’m curious. How many of you have made money with your art? Do you plan to one day or even live off income from your art?
I have so many fun ideas for series of cartoons cqrtoon comics that I could make websites for an hope for the best. It just seems to be my fof way out the daily grind of work. I’m at my wits end with my current job and until I move out of this area I really wont be able to get anything. In the end though I’m sick of all jobs, I haven’t had a job that has ever made me feel good about going to work and certainly nothing that has ever provided carton money to live comfortably in today’s economy with a 20K plus student loan to be paying off.
Ugh this isn’t the way life should be. I can’t live like this forever. Well I can’t ever seem to get myself to draw anymore and now my mnoey bamboo doesn’t work right or at all some times. Too bad I left the box back in Florida.
Anyway whatever, my girlfriend says I should do commissions but I have no confidence or any idea how to go about. So here’s what I’m going to do, first person to post a request here on my journal so that your post is proof you’re first gets a free drawing of their request no matter what it is well Let’s test the waters here, anything at all caryoon don’t expect it to look much better than what I am capable of.
We’ll see what happens from. Comments Join the community to add your comment. Already a deviant? Log In. Alfred-of-Doom Writer. I lack a job and have no sense of artistic nature. I believe I’m doomed to die a poor man with a inflated casket because I was too poor to afford a wooden one.
Don’t even ask where my funeral will be. I’m still working my regular cashier job, but I recently self published a book of comics, and over time I’ll make back what it cost to print, and then some profit, but it’s like a long term investment, not steady income. Commissions only work under very specific conditions, I’ve seen perfectly talented artist’s fail to sell commissions because your makung base is just going to be fickle. I don’t know how you feel about drawing comics now, I’ve seen some good sequential stuff from you in the past.
Minicomics sell a lot easier online that single drawings, especially in a profit-making way. I don’t know how to break into professional comics of cartoon making, but I don’t advise it.
There’s monet reason I’ve watched you all these, years, gah! As long aart you’re drawing it doesn’t matter if anyone hires you to do it, you’re a part time artist, and so am I.
My workplace is run by fashion nazis. Got to be clean shaven, no long hair, no tattoos, women have to caftoon make up or they get sent home. Its down right disrespectful imo to judge the employees based on how they look rather than on how they work. Seriously its only a stone throw away from requiring everyone to be blond and blue eyed. I kind of hate that though, I need something to keep me busy att I go nuts with boredom. I recently got upgraded to closer, so evenings I have lots of counting to do, and that beats the pants moey dusting shelves once standing still loses it’s appeal I tend to waffle between liking the idea of being paid to stand around in case of customers, and resent that that’s what I’m doing with my time.
I am ultimately pretty mellow about off because I don’t get yelled at, wear a costume, handle smelly things, get cut or burned, or have to learn career specific skills that assume I’ll be doing this all my life ie.
PS I feel all akward makinh I was like «good luck, bye» and now here we are all open-dialogue, and thanks for the watch. At my old job, a gas station, I didn’t mind not having much to do because I was allowed to fill my time with stuff I wanted to do like draw or play video games.
I worked overnight and as long as I got all my work done I was allowed to kill my time however i wanted when there were no customers. Now though I am stuck with next cartlon nothing to do and get in trouble for not doing.
Our management is just a complete joke. My first day I was being trained by a coworker and told «The key to this job is fucking off and dragging your work for the full 8 hours. Cqrtoon mind numbing. Anyway its kind of that thinking of I’ll monry stuck doing this all my life that I hate. I can’t imagine doing this for cartono rest of the year let alone the rest of my life. I want to be my own man, I see so many rich people out there and here I am cartooh just under a week.
Its just no way to live. I figure there are 3 ways of getting ahead in life: 1. Working hard and working up the corporate ladder. Maybe one day I can be a supervisor, then a manager, then a whatever comes after that I dunno. Maybe if I was working somewhere that interested pf sure but not at this place. Go back to college and cattoon a degree and starting higher up on the pay scale.
Great for caartoon but I already did 2 years and 20, bucks worth of college that I can’t afford to pay off. I made some mistakes in how I handled my college funds but now all I can seem to do is hope to pay it all off and move on. The most depressing aspect maling all this is knowing that no matter how much money I make ultimately I have to send off 20 grand to disappear forever. Start my own thing.
This seems to me the only way I’m going to get out of this rut. Most of the people who are well off seem to be the ones who are the shakers and movers that got there own things started be makjng a little restaurant or a website. Seeing how my specialty was maknig I think my best bet is to try to start up my own website and write up some goofy cartoons to entertain people.
Best thing about that is that no matter how bad the economy is people are always going to want to be entertained and what better value entertainment is out there than free websites? I got plenty of ideas and am working on some stuff but I know it’ll take a long time to make even a livable income. Omney I’m not hoping to be the next Penny Arcade or anything but I do makung that maybe just maybe one day I’ll be able to quit my day makihg and live off the income of my website and cartoons.
Even if its oc the same meager a week I’m making now busting my ass 40 hours a week on someone else’s time. OH my god what a rant. Sorry dude haha. Anyway thanks for the comments, I do appreciate and respect someone who would take the time out for a little discussion. PS internet was broken Yeah I’ve got no idea how to succeed financially in any way. The whole school-to-job-to-promotions-to-retirement at felt like a making money off of cartoon art carnival ride that lasts your whole life, and I politley stepped off that ride way back when I was a kid, fuck it, I said.
I’m not going to validate this system by spending my best years trying to get what I need out of it. It has been great talking to you any time. I’ve been selling originals and taking commission for a couple of years On top of that I have freelance. So I guess it is possible, just difficult. You’re young and just starting off in the job market man.
You can’t expect to make hideous amounts makihg money doing anything when you just start off. That is just not how the world works. The thing is with any career or job, you really need to decide what you WANT to.
Money will come after .
